Strategies to foster independent learning for pupils with SEND

This session is open to teachers & teaching assistants in mainstream and special settings and parents of pupils of primary and secondary age groups.

 

 

This session covers:

  • what does independent learning look like for pupils with SEND?
  • how we as teachers, TAs or parents can help or hinder independence
  • the crucial role of TAs in enabling independence
  • creating a classroom environment to support independence
  • planning and preparing for opportunities
  • developing a whole school culture

 

 

Course Leader: Mark Holloway is a teacher with many years of experience in Primary and Special schools, teaching pupils across the age range.  He is currently Chair of the TADSS Research & Development group and has researched independence in the school culture, sharing the results with colleagues and with groups of TAs and teachers. He looks forward to giving you practical advice on encouraging independent learning in your setting.
