Colleagues from mainstream and special schools met for a day of learning about Downs Syndrome and how to help these pupils achieve their potential.
Wendy O’Carroll from UpsandDowns Southwest delivered a fascinating insight into the best ways to help these youngsters engage with reading, writing and the curriculum whilst Dr Maggie Woodhouse explained how addressing visual difficulties can unlock learning. A shocking number of pupils have undiagnosed sight problems. There were opportunities for Q and A, a supportive atmosphere between participants and all left with some new strategies to try in class.
